SEO BUYER BEWARE TIPS

 

  • Be wary of SEO companies and website consultants that send you emails out of the blue offering to good to be true tales

    Amazingly, we get these spam emails too:

    "Dear google.com,
    I visited your website and noticed that you are not listed in most of the major search engines and directories..."

    Reserve the same skepticism for unsolicited email about search engines.

  • No one can guarantee #1 ranking on any of the search engines.

    Be careful of SEO technicians  and Sales Consultants  that claim to guarantee  1st place rankings on selected keywords and phrases, & who allege a "special relationship" with Google, or advertise a "priority submit" to Google. There is no priority submit for Google. In fact, the only way to submit a site to Google directly is through our Add URL page or by submitting a Sitemap and you can do this yourself at no cost whatsoever. It the old cliche of " BUYER BEWARE" 

  • Be careful if a company is evasive or won't clearly explain what they intend to do. Would you give the keys to your House, Car, Business, credit card details  and not know what a person was going to do with them or when access was going to be made

    Ask for explanations if something is unclear, ask and request to be notified every time a change or entry is made to your website. If an SEO technician or Sales Representative creates deceptive or misleading content on your behalf, such as doorway pages or "throwaway" domains, invisible text on on to your website, your site could be removed entirely from Google's index. Ultimately, you are responsible for all activity of any companies you hire, so it's best to be sure you know exactly what they intend to do when implementing any SEO Programme. If an SEO Tecnician  has FTP access to your server, they should be willing to explain all the changes they are making to your website, you wouldnt give a person the keys to your house or business without knowing when they were going to enter or what they would be doing when they arrived.

  • Ask where your Site will be linked to - Ask how many Links they will be creating and over what time frame - SEO is not an Overnight Process - Blogs - Articles - Social Media - Press Release

    SEO Technicians and Sales Consultants who talk about the power of "free-for-all" links,  or pay so much for so many link  schemes, or submitting your site to thousands of search engines even in countries you do not trade with. These are  useless exercises that wil not improve your rankings in the organic returns for people searching for your goods or services.  

  • SEO is not an overnight process

    While you consider whether to go with an SEO, you may want to do some research on the industry. Google is one way to do that, of course. You might also seek out a few of the cautionary tales that have appeared in the press, including this article on one particularly aggressive SEO: While Google doesn't comment on specific companies, we've encountered firms calling themselves SEOs who follow practices that are clearly beyond the pale of accepted business behavior. Be careful.

  • Know and Understand the Difference between paid results and organic free results

    Pay Per Click and Adwords are different to organic search results. Several SEO Technicians or Sales Consultants will combine both which can be misleading. Those that are highlighted  in the organic returns at the top of the page and on the right hand side of the page are paid for and depending on the amount bidded for that search term and the time of the day will depend on how many times that ranking will dominate the paid first  place listing. Some will even say hey look your number one from the Google Places directory listing - another trick - google places directory listiing is another free service by google that a lot of SEO technicians are claiming first page rankings for. Fact SEO is not an overnight process and only with the right white hat moves and patience, and building your websites authority amongst the search engines will your site become trusted. Ensure you use Long tail terms and short tail terms when choosing your keywords and keyword phrases. There are many components to a sucessful SEO programme and content is only one of them.

What to be Wary of When Deciding on an SEO Company & What questions you should ask

  • what sites you will be linked to or what sites are envisioned you should be linked to
  • Who will tweak the copy if needed
  • Will not tell you where they will submit any articles to
  • will not tell you where they will blog you to
  • does not submit to free press release sites
  • Does not encourage you to get on the social media sites
  • Not able to have access to your statitisics
  • Hidden text - with multiple keywords - known as keyword stuffing
  • puts links to their other clients on doorway pages
  • offers to sell keywords in the address bar
  • includes Google places listings as first page rankings
  • doesn't distinguish between actual search results and ads that appear on search results pages
  • guarantees ranking, but only on, long tailed  keywords and phrases you would get anyway
  • operates with different aliases or falsified WHOIS information
  • gets traffic from "fake" search engines, spyware, or scumware
  • has had domains removed from Google's index or is not itself listed in Google
  • Guarantees first place rankings on all keywords and phrases in all Search Engines
  • Chooses the keywords for you without consultation
  • Does not give you accurate statistics or access to your own website statistics
  • Does not give you the password to your google analytic account
  • Only tests the keywords at reporting times
  • Does not change the keywords or keyword phrases during the course of the programme
  • Does not ask about the demographics of your business
